I recently attended an Embroidery workshop taught by Bonnie Adie. This workshop was one of three workshops I registered for at the MAIWA textile symposium on Granville Island in Vancouver, BC. The quality of instruction and experiences provided by the instructors are excellent. After Bonnie's workshop I wanted to use and practice the skills so I created this piece I call Hummingbird Paradise. The bird theme was actually inspired by a challenge project I intended to enter at Visions Art Museum in San Diego. I didn't, however, get the project done soon enough to ship it to the States for a reasonable cost! The second workshop was The Creative Studio taught by Natalie Grambow. She guided us through a number of activities that inspired us to develop our own designs. We worked with design elements in small projects. We played with techniques such as photo transfer, block printing and collage. I left feeling excited about the creative process and eager to begin working with all the materials I have at home! Next week Lorraine Roy shows us her unique techniques in a Tree of Life workshop. Her designs are beautiful. I am curious to see how she is inspired and what her process is. We are so fortunate to have a symposium of this caliber in Vancouver. Thank you to MAIWA.
