Alive and In Motion 2014
24 x 18 inches
In a Private Collection
Commercially dyed fabrics, cotton and synthetics. Hand and Machine embroidered. Foundation fabric is a firm non-woven interfacing. A clear acrylic liquid medium was used to fuse the shapes to the foundation. Embellishment was added with a variety of threads stitched through the layered fabrics, and couched on the surface. Inspiration for my design came from the colors and prints on the fabrics.

Hand Dyed Challenge 2014
12 x 12 inches
Donated to Visions Art Museum
This design used samples I had created in a batik workshop. Both the cotton and the silk organza had similar motifs and the same procion dyes so I cut, arranged and layered the fabrics on a foundation of commercially dyed cotton. I then quilted the layers to a backing, hand and machine embroidered the surface to embellish, and bound the edges.

Crazy Quilt 2015
41 x 32 inches
Not for Sale
I have always been drawn to detail! The color theme is for my bedroom. Each block contains old lace, and bits of thread, buttons and embellishments I have collected in my travels and from family, friends and thrift shops. The fabric all came from my stash! Some fabrics are pieced and machine sewn together, and other pieces are fused or hand appliqued. The embroidery is mostly hand done with some machine embroidery to outline edges. A thin layer of silk batting was minimally quilted to the backing to keep the hanging lightweight.

Windows into the Desert 2015
12 x 14 inches Sold This piece was made for a challenge at the Visions Art Museum. It was inspired by a photograph I took at Borrego Springs. After I had embroidered and quilted the piece I cut it into 2 inch squares, rearranged the pieces and stitched them back together with a satin stitch! |
